Construction of a challenging 180m balanced cantilever cast in situ bridge - designed as two parallel single box girders in a three span configuration - over the Punggol River has recently begun in Singapore. It features use of the CONA CMI BT system which was chosen not only to provide the required force for construction, but also to allow smaller edge distances and center spacings to accommodate the fixings needed by the form traveler system. The adoption of the balanced cantilever construction method reduces disruption of the waterway beneath and, crucially, is kinder on the environment than conventional construction methods.
