The new Rama III bridge over the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, Thailand is taking shape - with strong construction engineering support from BBR Siam. The local BBR engineers have designed, supplied and are now operating the lifting machinery which is raising and positioning the massive 450 ton steel deck slabs for this 8-lane bridge. The team is using 12 temporary CONA CME 2706 external multistrand post-tensioning tendons for hanging the 450t segments and a 220t segment lifter – making a combined weight of 670t during launching operations. Due to open in 2023, the new bridge is under construction adjacent to the Rama IX bridge and is a key component of the Expressway project which will facilitate travel between Bangkok and the west.
